Art Calendar
CLICO has become renowned for its annual Art Calendar since its inception in 1992.
The calendar features original works from artists throughout the region.
Based on the selected theme, works will be purchased; commissioned or selected
via an Art competition. Prominent artists from Trinidad and Tobago, such as, the
late Carlyle Chang and James Isaiah Boodoo, Jackie Hinkson, Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott,
Boscoe Holder, Jason Nedd; from Guyana Martin Junor and Bernadette Persaud; from Belize
Pedro A. Cruz, are just a few who have been featured in our Art Calendar. This calendar
is a much sort after collector’s item, where the vibrant and vivid prints are framed and
adorned on the walls of so many.
CLICO Preysal
In 1998 we entered into a sponsorship arrangement with Preysal Cricket Club,
which was already competing in the National Cricket League and an ideal prospect
for this initiative. The Company worked with the Club's leaders to develop
management and community relations programmes for the members and supporters.
In particular, they worked through the Club's youth programmes to instill
discipline, commitment and pride to the already talented youngsters. The Club's
management responded by upgrading their coaching programmes at all levels, and
the results soon began to show.
Since its partnership with CLICO, Preysal has won twenty nine National Cricket Titles,
at all age group levels. The effectiveness of the Leadership Development Programmes
was clearly demonstrated when young CLICO Preysal players went on to be Captains of
the West Indies Under 19 and Under 15 Teams, Dinesh Ramdin, Aaron Ragoonath and
Kjorn Ottley respectively.
Part of our investment in Preysal Cricket Club involved the upgrading of the
grounds and the Pavilion and spectators' facilities. However, we also looked
for other meaningful investments in cricket facilities in Trinidad. At the time,
the Queens Park Cricket Club was embarking on a development and improvement
programme to their facilities at the Queens Park Oval. CLICO responded by designing
and building the new C L Duprey Stand, where the former open schoolboys stand stood.
This magnificent, three-tiered stand provides two layers of comfortable seating for
patrons, plus a series of corporate boxes and conference facilities at the upper
level. The Cyril Duprey Stand at the Oval has raised the standard of spectator
facilities throughout the Caribbean.
CLICO Sforzata (pronounced for-zah-tah)
After several years of searching for the right instrument to create music for Carnival celebrations, the steelpan, the only instrument invented in the 20th Century, which is part of Trinidad and Tobago’s heritage, was developed in 1939 after a ban on drum beating was imposed in 1884. Bands comprised of pans only began to form and were called steelbands. Sforzata Steelband Organisation was formed in 1976 as an avenue for youth in the community to display their musical and creative talents. The intentions were also to develop music literacy and general pan playing techniques while encouraging and maintaining high standards of discipline. CLICO in support of this fledgling band began sponsorship in 2005 and is now known as the CLICO Sforzata Steelband Organisation.
